This is ridiculous. Go to your You Tube inbox.

I am not saying that everyone did drugs, but it was certainly not an unknown phenomena. And saying that the women were like nuns is a bit naive in my world. I didn't grow up with parents who played in big bands, but I have been a part of the Swing Scene for most of my life, and I have been thoruoghly historically educated by many people who were part of the swing scene in those days´, and also by "the second generation", people that have spent much more time than I talking to "the oldies".

I do not know who you talked to, but whomever it was they were wrong and were feeding you a lot of nonsense. There were NOT "a lot of drugs" around then. Anyone who used drugs was unreliable and unable to play well within the framework of a large orchestra. I know, my dad played trombone with some of the larger bands of the era like Goodman, Dorsey ( I forgot which one) and even Glenn Miller as a replacement for several weeks. You might say I grew up with Big Bands.

Yep, and some of those people are still around, or were, just a few years ago. If you go to Herräng Dance Camp (and some other swing dance places), you can meet them, talk to them and listen to their stories. There were a lot of drugs around, and a lot of sex, just like today. Listen to some of the swing songs. Know of "Jelly Roll" Morton? :-)
If you are interested in the 40's and Swing dancing, go around and talk to some of the "oldies" while they are still around.

well from what i can see the only real noticable person is "K.Kyser"

1. The video was made in the 40's. The people in the video were at least 20 years old. That was 60+ years ago. 20 + 60 = 80. How complicated is that?
2. Girls in the 40's were nuns compared to the girls of today. I teach these teenager girls so do not presume to tell me about today's 'flower of womanhood.'
3. No, who are those people and why would I know them? They were black entertainers that is all I know of them.
HerrFridolf (March 12, 2010 at 6:24 pm)
Hahaha if you knew anything about it you would know this is certainly not true. Ever met Norma Miller? Or Frankie Manning?

(For those of you who don't know, Swing Heil is a freedom call... see the movie Swing Kids)

This is (the white version of) the Lindy Hop!

Does anyone know what form of swing this is? I'm thinking it's East Coast swing, but I would like to be sure. I have to teach a class about swing and want to use this video.
