Check out the Knight's Armament PDW. Bigger bullet than the 5.56, its a 6x35mm (assault round), less recoil than m4, weighs 4 pounds and is cool.

Watch it and tell me whether it is cool or not.

Yes, which in the case of this gun is a good thing, because many of the advantages of the open bolt are really nulled because of the fact that it shoots such a small round.

But also an interesting feature of this firearm is that it has a rotating bolt and short-stroke gas piston. Most machine pistols are direct blowback and many also shoot from the open bolt postion like the Uzi.

The mp7 really shoots more of a pistol cartridge, its not long enough really to be called a rifle cartridge. Its really of a class of submachine guns called personal defense weapons that shoot armor piercing rounds. It can also be classified in a way as a machine pistol.
