7.62x39 or what? if so you could not hit a damn thing....but hey, i'm an ignorant AR lover-seriously I am...
bbsloveme (May 18, 2009 at 1:32 am)
no matter the situation, id always prefer the 7.62 round. Stopping power, deep inpact....how could you go wrong?

US military/combat standards =/= FBI/LE/civilian standards.

in combat, suppression is more important than accuracy, while in a LE situation, it's completely reversed. basically, it's perfect for the military, since unlike a LE situation, an immediate kill is not essential with the first round or two.

even if it was, it's done a pretty good job of accomplishing that, in Peru, the US, and Iraq..

I'm not sure if the military (if by military you mean the US military) would accept this round. The FBI recommends a minimum penetration depth of 300 millimeters (12 inches) and the 5.7x28 delivered a little short of that, at 10.4 inches.

i've read Fackler's report and the arguments he makes ignore his own previous observations in the majority of terminal ballistics cases. further, his argument against the 5.7mm is directed more towards the LE community, rather than the military, as the military has requirements far more forgiving in the realm of terminal ballistics.

there are several major names on infantry tactics who're pushing for more to be issued to the grunts as it fits the old Project SALVO requirements perfectly.

Well I'm not the one that said the 5.7mm has terrible terminal performance. If you want to debate, you're going to have to find Doctor Martin Fackler. I'm basing my evidence off of certified and official reports/testing.

energy transfer doesn't matter at all, as long as the penetration is deep enough.

and if the 5.7mm has such poor terminal performance, why have most of the shooting's it's been involved in been 1-stop-shots?

and actually, the best performing 9mm has been the 147gr JHP.
kevinrocks2323 (April 29, 2009 at 10:58 pm)
Well that's not entirely true, the 5.7x28 has less energy transfer than the 9x19mm. The 5.7x28 and the 4.6x30 (which is the round used in this video) were both reported to have very low terminal effectiveness. The 9x19mm cartridge with the most effectiveness is the 115g Hollow point +P+, which many law enforcement agencies use which were reported to have excellent performance. The armor piercing 5.7x28 are obviously FMJ rounds, which have less damage on tissue than hollowpoints.
