Ivan Sutherland : Sketchpad Demo (1/2)

This video is a TV show made about the software Ivan Sutherland developed in his 1963 thesis at MIT's Lincoln Labs, "Sketchpad, A Man-Machine Graphical Communication System", described as one of the most influential computer programs ever written. This work was seminal in Human-Computer Interaction, Graphics and Graphical User Interfaces (GUIs), Computer Aided Design (CAD), and contraint/object-oriented programming. While watching this video, remember that the TX-2 computer (built circa 1958) on which the software ran was built from discrete transistors (not integrated circuits -it was room-sized) and contained just 64K of 36-bit words (~272k bytes).(1/2) http://...

Amazing stuff for 1963, the year I was born. Very advanced alright!

1963!? Why doesn't Microsoft patent this new technology it has invented while watching this video?

Joking. "The computer will seem to have some intelligence. It doesn't really, it only has intelligence we put in"<- I like that. It's weak artificial intelligence hypothesis. AI is all like that - does what it's programmed to, nothing more (ie no consciousness). There's no strong AI.

Hehe. I also like the skeptic comments from the host ;-)
5 stars, going to next vid. put this on archive org plz.

Wow, some of these features are just now appearing in AutoCAD. These guys should have borrowed the technology from aliens. I am sure the time machine and Light speed aircraft already exist at MIT!!
