Yavin IV was a gas giant and not vulnerable to attack by the Death Star. Do some research before you mock!

Eh, from what I heard the Death Star didn't have the power to detonate Yavin Prime. Although whether it could have fired a dispersing shot through the gas giant's upper atmosphere and simply irradiated Yavin IV to a cinder... maybe.Part of the problem was the Imperial confidence. They didn't realise until too late that the attack force might actually have a chance in hell; they assumed they were invulnerable and so were waiting for the "ultimate badass moment" to one-shot the Rebellion.
