I'm looking at lots of crappy veins on my hand that are moving all over the place. :-)

I totally agree! I ask the patient first...I've stuck IVs totally blind, not feeling or seeing anthing, and hit the jack pot just because the patient told me to start it there. This is especially true with people who have had lots of IVs.

Okay as a "club med kid"(I'm 27 now), I'm gonna add a tip here. Listen to the patient. I've had a bunch of IVs, I know where, they'll be able to get it in on the first try. It drives me crazy when they try like 6 other places first, then discover I knew my body after all.

This video is amazing!! I toke my first IV last week in an old patient of 85 years old..I've place a pink one, I was a bit nervous but finally when I saw the blood rising the cannula, I continued to push the catheter inside the vein in parallel direction, than I did it. It was a moment of pride for me! eheheh...I've to say that the famous rule FEEL THE VEIN, DON'T LOOK FOR IT..IT'S TRUE!!! :D

I thought veins don't actually "roll", but stabilizing is still a great idea!
