RUGBY UN - ENGLAND vs AUSTRALIA HIGHLIGHTS 07/10/09

England slumped to an 18-9 defeat in their autumn opener against Australia at Twickenham despite the best efforts of Jonny Wilkinson.Wilkinson, playing his first Test since March last year, kicked two penalties and a drop-goal and was at his ferocious best in defence.

But Martin Johnson's side lacked imagination and were undone by tries from Will Genia and Adam Ashley-Cooper and eight points from the boot of Matt Giteau, withAustralia showing far greater purpose in attack.

Wilkinson was immediately back into the groove, slotting England into a third-minute lead with a drop-goal after a well-executed line-out move. Two powerful runs from Dan Hipkiss kept England on the front foot, before Wallaby winger Peter Hynes waspenalised for a dangerous tackle on Ugo Monye - and Wilkinson adopted his familiar pose to drill the penalty.

it promised the earth, new housing, sunshine etc, when the brits got there the majority were put into camps, prefab anderson selters with basically no amenities. after leaving modern housing in the uk? when tensions rose, the aussies called them " whingers". it got worse! when the poms started takin aussie jobs cos of there skilled trades they called them " pommie bastards". where you from in aussie bok?

new one to me? intresting. i thought it was prisoner of motherland. the whingin term comes from the 1950s, ( the ten pound poms). when the aussie govt asked uk for help after WW2 to ask poms to help restock the population, thousands emmigrated to aus, after seeing adverts sent from aussie govt.

Only found this, Millbank Prison which was basically a holding centre for prisoners waiting to be transported off to Australia. On the back of their standard issue prison jackets were the initials P.O.M. which was Prisoners of Millbank, and when they ended up in Australia, the Australians waiting at the other end would say heres another POM. The presenter affirms this by repeating that So the term Poms comes from this place; Prisoners of Millbank.

i think your going OTT on that one bok. im from bham? yes there are large ethic communities, but not to the degree that your saying. yes the uk borders are a fuckin shambles, AND we could learn a thing or 2 from the way the aussies do it.

hahaha the same problem, not nearly to the degree that it is in the UK, i mean u tell me if you go to say London or Birmingham both of which i have been to. there are more indians/pakis/africans than there are actual poms???.
