anything that i've heard of clapton's doesn't have the fire that mayer's solos do. are you deaf? i'm not just talking about his video. you're just another person who looks down on jm for his pop stuff and hasn't heard anything recent.

wannabegr8: There's more to being a good musician than playing an impressive solo. Mayer's songwriting, it has to be said, lacks maturity (mainly in the lyrics department). Not to say he's no good; he's obviously a tremendously gifted musician/writer/producer and I enjoy his music greatly. However, Clapton's experience puts him ahead of Mayer in many ways that don't show in a 4:05 clip of a song that hasn't changed in 30 years.

this isn't supposed to be a dig at clapton, is it? have you heard his unplugged album? i have a ton of respect for both musicians, and i hope you aren't trying to downplay the writer of some of the most soulful songs ever. (i.e. tears in heaven)
