This is one actress I do enjoy watching, she acts as though it is a craft and has no fear in presenting herself as the character instead of always choosing pretty characters. She is a good actress who continues to grow.

wow, she has such a unique half-gravelly voice because she is Americanizing her South Africa accent, didn't know that... Kinda like what Hugh Laurie does as "House".

she never spoke english really in south africa. she spoke Africkaans fluently with her family and in her Afrikaans performing arts boarding school.

She needed to speak american english to even get work in film, so she eventually just learned english in America with an American dialect.

She grew up in a farm in Benoni so she was quite sheltered. She talked in interviews when she first came to the states about how behind they were.

Dude, this is not her native accent. She has worked INCREDIBLY hard to ditch her flat Pretorian accent and take on a full American accent.If you want to hear what her accent would have been like before her "conversion" to American, then look up this video:

Then go to around 04:30 where they are interviewing an older woman who comes from the same part of South Africa where Charlize grew up - What she would have sounded like originally

Where the heck did she grow up? The Outback? Coz when I was growing up in Cape Town, we had huge malls and cinemas with Dolby and stuff like that.... and when the alien popped up out of the dude's stomach, we knew that was special effects and not real.... and I am way older than her! She must have worked INCREDIBLY hard to get rid of her flat Pretoria accent.... because I've heard the raw dialect before.... and man, it's not pretty!
