I really admire Bocelli, and find his "opera very soothing". But I agree with you, he does not have the vocal range that Pavarotti or Carruso had. I think he is better suited for songs like vivo por ella and such. He does this piece very well and i enjoy it, but then when you listen to Pav sing it you realize there is no comparison. everyone keep your hate mail, it is a subject that is cannot be decided either way.

The people who blog in here praising this lifeless performance neither have an educated ear nor could they possibly have ever studied voice. Only a cretin thinks "Ave Maria" (Hail Mary) is from a Walter Scott poem. And, anybody who thinks this is really a Caccini piece is just too lazy to look it up. The best thing about this particular piece is the church and the out-of-focus Michelangelo.

Wow. Ave Maria is a prayer written by Sir Walter Scott!!!I guess all those Medieval composers who wrote "Ave Maria's" had some kind of time-machine that zapped them into the future! Wow!

Ave Maria is a prayer not a song, it was from Sir Walter Scotts poem The lady of the lake. This lady cries out Mary for help, because she and her father are in exile and need help. So gender makes a lot of difference.
